In case you haven’t noticed, we really love video games, and so we also love our collection of video game candy. They all come in metal tins, which makes them neat storage containers after you’ve devoured the contents.

We’ve added a free paper toy, “Sniffles, The Frost-Breathing Dragon.” Instead of breathing fire like other dragons, he breathes frost–he freezes whatever he breathes on. As you’d expect, the cold has given him a perpetually runny nose, so his sidekick is a Box of Kleenex. You can either add him to your cart or download from the page.

You can have your very own collection of chaos emeralds without the need to curl up into a ball and zoom around a 2D side-scrolling environment. There are about 1.5oz of apple and cherry flavored candies shaped like gems in each metal tin. Great gamer gift, especially for the die-hard Sonic fans. Sonic the Hedgehog Chaos Emeralds Candy$3.25

Beep it Deluxe from Michael Una on Vimeo.
We just got shipment of new gamer candy and added three cool new music toys!
![]()
Wouldn’t it be cool if Mario’s Question Mark Coin Boxes shot out candy instead? Now they do! And check out this Atari Joystick Gum with a moveable joystick. Neato.
OK, onto the music toys. Beep-It and Beep-It Deluxe are both optical theremins. They both output a square wave whose pitch is controlled by the amount of light striking a photoresistor. You control the pitch by casting shadows over the light sensor, or by pointing it towards/away from a light source. It sounds really 8-Bit / Chiptuney. The Deluxe version comes in a fancy bamboo case with more knobs and functionality. $35-$65
Seeq-it is a square wave synthesizer with a built-in stepped sequencer. There are 8
steps to the sequence, and each step can be set to a different pitch or turned off. LEDs on the front panel indicate the position and speed of the sequence as it moves in a circle. A 2nd low-frequency oscillator can be used to modulate the output pitch, resulting in additional tones and rhythms. A built-in resonant lowpass filter allows for fat frequency sweeps and tone control. Seeq-i
t’s sound is reminiscent of both 8-bit video games and classic techno sequencers. The pitch output ranges from very high to very low, earth-shaking bass frequencies. $195

Learn MoreJane McGonigal: Gaming can make a better world
Last Updated on Friday, 22 October 2010 03:16 Written by Liz McLean Knight Monday, 12 April 2010 02:07
Jane McGonigal asks: Why doesn’t the real world work more like an online game? In the best-designed games, our human experience is optimized: We have important work to do, we’re surrounded by potential collaborators, and we learn quickly and in a low-risk environment. In her work as a game designer, she creates games that use mobile and digital technologies to turn everyday spaces into playing fields, and everyday people into teammates. Her game-world insights can explain — and improve — the way we learn, work, solve problems, and lead our real lives.
McGonigal directs game R&D at the Institute for the Future, a nonprofit forecasting firm where she developed Superstruct, a massively multiplayer game in which players organize society to solve for issues that will confront the world in 2019. She masterminded World Without Oil, which simulated the beginning of a global oil crisis and inspired players to change their daily energy habits. McGonigal also works with global companies to develop games that build on our collective-intelligence infrastructure — like The Lost Ring, a mystery game for McDonald’s that became the world’s biggest alternate reality game, played by more than 5 million people. (Not to mention the delightful Top Secret Dance-Off, which taps that space in our brains where embarrasment and joy mingle.) She’s working on book called Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Happy and How They Can Change the World.

My original dance pad broke, so I decided to cut it up to see what was inside. The top layer was actually pretty, so I thought it would make a cool purse. Literally. Hah!
Check out the photos documenting how I made it.
